Shankarsinh Vaghela quits Congress, but says he will not join BJP

AHMEDABAD: Leader of Opposition in Gujarat assembly Shankarsinh Vaghela quit the Congress party+ on Friday. Life turned a full circle for Vaghela , a BJP rebel who merged his Rashtriya Janata Party (RJP) with Congress 17 years back, as he resigned from the Congress party on his 77th birthday.

"I have resigned as the Leader of Opposition. I will resign as Congress MLA after the Rajya Sabha elections. I am freeing myself from Congress", said Vaghela at the jam packed 'Sam-Samvedna Sammelan' organized in Gandhinagar to celebrate his birthday.

"I was very upset while deciding to leave the BJP. Destiny has brought me to the same point where I have to leave the Congress as well", said Vaghela.

Vaghela, however, insisted that he is not going to join BJP. "I am not joining BJP", Vaghela reiterated, insisting that he is a "free bird" now.

"I am dedicating myself to the service of people from today. I will be there for poor, dalits, traders, workers, farmers, fixed pay workers and even poor upper castes", said Vaghela.
